Missouri’s Math Pathways initiative, led by the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, helps students take math courses that better align with their academic majors and career goals rather than requiring traditional college algebra for every degree. The initiative was created to improve student success and college completion by offering alternative entry-level courses such as Statistical Reasoning, Mathematical Reasoning and Modeling, Precalculus Algebra, and pathways for Elementary Education. STEM majors continue to follow algebra-intensive pathways, while students in fields like humanities, business, and social sciences can take courses more relevant to their programs. The goal is to reduce barriers to graduation and create stronger transfer pathways across Missouri colleges and universities.
